Hi everyone!!! Happy December!!! I hope everyone had the best Thanksgiving ever!!!
This week was so much fun!! We had member meals every night with all of my favorite members and it made me sooooo happy!!!
On Thanksgiving morning we visited a bunch of elderly members and we met Miss Marcie!! She is probably one of the coolest people I have ever met. She is confined to a wheelchair but her mind is so sharp. She was in the military and her conversion story to the church is so cool. She grew up in the "reorganized lds church" and one day one of their leaders got up and said that they weren't going to read the Book of Mormon anymore because it's all just a nice story and not scripture. Miss marcie didn't like this because she LOVES the Book of Mormon. She said "when you know it's true, there is no going back. It is one special book." Hearing this was so sweet. Being gone for the holidays is really hard but having experiences like this makes it worth it.
Then we had dinner with a bunch of members and it was definitely different then what my Thanksgivings used to look like, but I'm learning that "different" is ok. It was still so much fun and we had a ping-pong tournament after and that was really fun!!
NOW FOR THE BEST PART OF THE WEEK!!!
A family in our ward has the missionaries over every year the day after Thanksgiving for Pie Day!!!! They take all of the leftovers and make a pot pie out of it, and then each kid makes 2-3 pies. So we had 11 pies on the dinner table. Normally I am not a pie person at all, but I fear I have been converted to it and there is no going back. They had every pie you could think of and it was so good!!! Their kids are so funny and at one point I was laughing so hard and I leaned over to tell Sister Crawley something and my chair slipped and I fell on the ground so hard!!! Ahahha the dad came in and was like "Pie down!! Pie down!!" It was so funny! And then they gave us each a pie tin to take leftovers home so we have soooo much pie in our fridge. This is a tradition that I am stealing and bringing home with me🫡
I have so much love for this time of year. Seeing everyone so welcoming and loving and filled with the spirit and with gratitude is the best thing ever!! And as a missionary it's like that feeling is magnified which is so cool.
I studied the hymn "Oh the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus" this week and I love it so much!! Some of my favorite lyrics are:
"Oh, the deep, deep love of Jesus—Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free"
"How He watcheth o’er His loved ones, Died to call them all His own;"
"Oh, the deep, deep love of Jesus—Love of ev’ry love the best—’Tis an ocean vast of blessing; ’Tis a haven sweet of rest. Oh, the deep, deep love of Jesus— ’Tis a heav’n of heav’ns to me; And it lifts me up to glory, Lifts me up eternally."
And then one of the scriptures referenced is John 4:9-10 "9) In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10) Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins."
I know that my savior loves me. I know that his love is what frees me and is what lifts me up eternally. I love Him because he loves me. And he loves every single one of us more than we know. Always remember that and you'll be good!!
Oh, the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus
